First Women Leadership Development Programme aims to empower women in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior
Women are crucial for an effective security sector but remain underrepresented in security roles. With this in mind, the EU Advisory Mission Iraq, a CSDP civilian mission which advises the Iraqi government on security sector reform (SSR), is supporting the Iraqi Ministry of Interior (MoI) in its efforts to advance women in leadership positions through a German-funded programme for women leaders. The programme underlines the importance of a diverse and inclusive security sector through capacity-building.
Around fifty current and future women leaders from the MoI attended the first part of this multi-week programme. The participants used the training to define their leadership style, discuss leadership styles and qualities and perfect their leadership skills. The workshop was facilitated by experts from the Rotterdam School of Management of Erasmus University in the Netherlands.
EUAM Iraq is honoured to advise and support an inclusive security sector reform in Iraq and the meaningful participation of women in national security structures.
