Ecuadorian citizens need a "short stay visa" for stays of up to 90 days in the states belonging to the Schengen area.

You must lodge the application for a Schengen visa at the Consulate of the country that you intend to visit, or – if you intend to visit more than one Schengen State, the Consulate of the country of your primary destination (i.e.main purpose of stay or longest stay).

If you intend to visit several Schengen States and the stays will be of equal length, you must apply at the Consulate of the country whose external borders you will cross first when entering the Schengen area.

You must submit the application at least 15 days before the intended trip and no more than three months before the scheduled start of the trip.

The short-stay visa does not automatically entitle you to enter the Schengen area. At the border (or during other controls) you may have to show the visa, but also provide additional documentation, for example, information on that you have sufficient means to cover the stay and the return trip.

Erasmus+ is the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport for the period 2020– 2027.  It offers a range of opportunities for higher education students, doctoral candidates, staff and institutions from around the world.

Study part of your degree in Europe: Erasmus+ student mobility grants.

To date, over 30 mobility agreements have been signed between Ecuadorian higher education institutions (HEIs) and those in the European Union. Together, these provide grants for selected Ecuadorian universities to send more than 100 of their students and staff to partner universities throughout Europe. If your university has one or more of these inter-institutional agreements, you will be able to apply to spend part of your degree period (3 to 12 months) at the European university. This mobility is possible at bachelor, master or doctorate level. In mid-2018, new partnerships have been selected: some of these may offer traineeships in Europe too. Contact your university's international office to see where you can go, and what you can study.

Ecuadorian students coming to Europe may receive a monthly contribution to their expenses abroad of between €800 and €900, depending on the cost of living in the host country, plus a travel contribution based on the distance from the sending to the receiving institution.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMDs) are operated by consortia of higher education institutions (HEIs) from the EU and elsewhere in the world. They provide high quality integrated courses and joint or multiple diplomas following study or research at two or more HEIs to:

• Masters students to study in an EM Joint Master Degree.
• Scholars and guest academics to teach or carry out research as part of an EMJMD.

Students from all over the world are eligible to apply.

Around 110 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees will be awarding scholarships for courses starting in the academic year 2020-2023. The new call will be published from September 2021 and applications must be sent directly to the programs of interest of the candidate within the deadline stipulated by the program. A new selection of fully funded Erasmus Mundus grants is carried out in the same period of each year, covering registration, transport and installation costs, living costs of €1000 per month and travel insurance. In total, the value of this grant can reach up to €25,000 per year.
