Dear friends, it is a great honour for me to be able to represent the European Union before the Republic of Ecuador. During the four years ahead of me, I will devote all my efforts to deepening the close ties we maintain on the basis of our common values aimed at achieving peace, democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights and international law.
In the current geopolitical context, in which the European Union is affected by Russia’s unjustified aggression against Ukraine, it becomes more important than ever to continue strengthening our cooperation in international fora to achieve peace and strengthen international security.
Supported by my committed Delegation team, I will focus on expanding our dialogues on issues of mutual interest, including those related to gender and women’s empowerment; expanding opportunities for young people, promoting investments through our Global Gateway strategy; with job creation and with the full implementation of the potential of our Trade Agreement that drives new models of production and sustainable, green and inclusive development.
Ecuador is a key partner for the European Union and we will continue to work to overcome common challenges such as the fight against transnational organised crime; and betting on multilateralism as global challenges can only be effectively tackled together, across borders.
We believe in Ecuador, in its great potential, in the richness of its culture, its impressive biodiversity, and above all in its persevering and generous people who build a better country day by day. As partners, united in a genuine bond of friendship, we will stand by your side, attentive to your needs to continue implementing actions, such as Team Europe, in coordination with the Government, civil society, academia, the private sector and youth.
