Enhancing Constructive Citizen Engagement of the State for Improved Public Policymaking and Constitutionalism
The following are the expected outcomes:
- Increased participation in democratic platforms, particularly advocating for the full implementation of the 2013 Constitution in order to achieve the respect and protection of human rights.
- Laws aligned to the constitution in a participatory, meaningful and inclusive manner through increased CSO and citizen activism.
Implementation progress
- Increased awareness of the Constitution knowledge on mechanism for redress of constitutional violations by CSOs and citizens resulting in of three petitions being submitted to Parliament and two complaints to the Human Rights Commission.
- Successfully advocated for enhanced gender mainstreaming, the project contributed to the National Sexual harassment policy and the National Gender Budget.
- Empowering citizens to participate in the law making process from an informed position through making relevant contributions at public hearings and providing written submissions to Parliament, for example 305 of citizens input was taken on board in the Constitutional amendment Bill No.2
Simplification and translation of public interest court judgements and distributing them to citizens in the target areas.
