EU Partners with Elbarlament to promote human rights in Yemen
On this Human Rights Day, we take pride in reflecting upon our project, "Toward Enhancing the Resilience of Women Human Rights Defenders in Yemen, Advocating for Women’s and Children’s Rights."
The European Union’s partnership with Elbarlament focuses on enhancing the protection of Yemeni women Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), supporting them to have access to international accountability mechanisms and strengthening their skills to document human rights violations with a view towards amplifying their voices to advocate effectively for women’s and children rights.
Looking at their role within their families and the humanitarian work they have delivered since the war broke out in Yemen, we are convinced that women are impact-multipliers.
One of its most notable activities has been the provision of Leadership Training for Women Human Rights Defenders in Yemen and in the diaspora. The virtual workshops and training sessions effectively built skills and empowered participants in their advocacy for women's and children's rights.
The ultimate goal of this initiative was to strengthen the leadership skills and knowledge base of women HRDs, empowering them to be resilient advocates for human rights in their communities.
Here are some inspiring testimonies shared by the women Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), highlighting some topics.
Preventing Closure of Foundation
"During a challenging period, we considered closing our foundation. Thanks to the training, I gained practical and personal benefits, enhancing my problem-solving and decision-making skills. We overcame many hurdles, transforming our work and approach."
Effective Communication in Political Dialogue
"The training turned me into a skilled communicator for national political dialogue. I now excel in team management, problem-solving, and collaboration."
Establishing a Supportive Women's Network
"Participation in the sessions strengthened my network with remarkable women leaders. We've grown together, shared experiences, and become better leaders in our field."
Funded by the EU, this project is implemented by Elbarlament, the Peace Track Initiative and ToBe Foundation for Rights and Freedoms.
