EU ambassadors conclude visit to Aden

EU Ambassador to Yemen Gabriel Munera Vinals, Ambassador of the Netherlands, Jeannette Seppen, Ambassador of Germany, Hubert Jager, and Deputy Ambassador of France, Aymeric Beauvillain, concluded today a visit to Aden.

The Ambassadors participated in the 7th Feminist Summit, which was organised under the auspices of the Prime Minister’s Office. They reiterated their support to women's empowerment as agents for positive change, including for sustainable economic growth and prosperity. They stressed the EU’s determination to continue supporting Yemeni women as key actors in achieving good governance, peace and security.

The Ambassadors also met government officials, including the Minister of Interior, the Deputy Governor of Aden, the Chairman of the CRC, the Deputy Chairman of the Coast Guard, and the Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen.

They visited implementation sites of several EU-funded projects: 1) the Crater police station, rehabilitated under a project that aims at improving community safety and build trust between the local law enforcement and the community. The district police station was also provided training under the project in managing community relations. 2) A health clinic, identified as a priority by district authorities for rehabilitation and equipping through an EU funded project that aims at strengthening the capacities and resilience of local authorities; 3) and the Aden Bar Association, which the EU supports through its partnership with the OHCHR.

The Ambassadors reiterated the European Union’s steadfast support to the Government of Yemen and underlined that unity and reform remain essential in these challenging times. They encouraged continued constructive engagement with UN-led peace efforts.
