EU ambassadors conclude visit to Aden

EU Ambassador to Yemen Gabriel Munuera Viñals, Ambassador of France Catherine Corm-Kammoun, Ambassador of the Netherlands Jeannette Seppen and Ambassador of Germany Hubert Jäger concluded today a joint visit to Aden. 

 

The Ambassadors met PLC VP Aidarous al-Zubaidi and reiterated support for the PLC and government of Yemen. They encouraged concerted efforts to address the economic challenges and improve service delivery under extremely difficult conditions. They called for continued constructive engagement with UN-led peace efforts, which offer the best way forward for a better future for Yemen.

The Ambassador also met with the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr Waed Badhib, Minister of Finance Salem bin Bureik, Minister of Electricity  Manea bin Yameen and Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen Ahmed Ghaleb al-Maabaqi. 

The Ambassadors encouraged continued work to stabilise the economy, strengthen public revenues and improve expenditure management, and deliver basic services. They underscored the importance of ensuring respect for fundamental rights and a conducive operating environment for humanitarian and development actors helping Yemenis.

A meeting was also held with the Presidium of the Consultation and Reconciliation Committee (CRC), who briefed about CRC work in support for national unity and reconciliation. 

The EU Heads of Mission reiterated the European Union’s unflinching support for the work of the UN Special Envoy towards a just and inclusive political settlement in Yemen.
