Ambassador Gabriel Munuera Viñals' participation in Yemen international Forum 2023
EU Ambassador to Yemen Gabriel Munuera Viñals participated in the second Yemen International Forum (YIF) held on 12 – 15 June in The Hague. The YIF aims to provide a platform for Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue, where diverse Yemeni stakeholders can discuss issues of interest and concern, notably ways to advance an inclusive, lasting peace in Yemen.
During the four-day event, Ambassador Munuera Viñals had rich and productive interactions with many actors, from Yemen the region and the wider international community. He underscored in his interventions that Yemen is and will remain high on the agenda of the EU and its Member States. “By supporting the Yemen International Forum, we encourage dialogue and the promotion of practical solutions for peacebuilding in Yemen.”
In an interview on the margins of the conference, Ambassador Munuera
Viñals reiterated that the EU wholeheartedly supports UN-led peace efforts and the work of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen. He pointed out that hopeful dynamics remain in Yemen even after the UN-brokered truce expired back in October last year. “Fortunately, the truce has continued holding to a large extent in terms of avoiding major military escalation. We see contacts are continuing, regional efforts are ongoing.”
Over 250 participants from inside and outside Yemen, including representatives from political parties, private sector, civil society, academia and international community, took part in the forum’s intense program of activities.
