The (EU) is a strong supporter of the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core. The Mission’s work includes the regular work of the WTO, as well as related trade negotiations and dispute settlement. It is part of the European External Action Service (EEAS) established following the Lisbon Treaty of 2007..

As laid down by treaty, the EU institutions have exclusive competence to represent in international trade matters. This covers trade in goods, trade in services, commercial aspects of intellectual property, and foreign direct investment (FDI).
