The "Yukori Josh" neighbourhood, located in the Koshrabat district of the Samarkand region, is located in a mountainous area, so there is a high probability of severe floods in winter and spring. If the flood flow is strong, it will block the main road. As a result, children face difficulties in attending school, adults on their way to market or hospital.

There are 318 households, 2450 residents and 300 pupils in the “Yukori Josh” neighbourhood.

“I live in the upper part of this area where my grandchildren go to school from the first grade. It is very difficult in winter, especially in spring. This school is attended by at least 300 students, including those from other villages. Two years ago, a spring flood washed away a bus. Therefore, a bridge is needed here for children and residents,” - said local activist Zoir Bokhtaev.

“Every year, when there is a flooding, our outerwear and shoes get dirty, sometimes we cannot go to school because of the floods. Please build us a bridge," - said local children about their fear of going to school during the flood period. The reason is that last year a child was swept away by flood water.

Help to the population project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the “Yuksalish” nationwide movement and the “Tarakkiyot” development centre, aims to improve small-scale infrastructure in remote rural areas of Uzbekistan. For this purpose, consultation meetings were held with activists and residents of the “Yukori Josh” neighbourhood. During the interview, the residents asked to build a bridge in the neighbourhood and voted for it.

After discussions, in June this year, a pedestrian bridge was built for the residents of the “Yukori Josh”. As a result, people have fewer difficulties and can now easily and safely reach their destinations.
