European cinema on the big screen: a festival not to be missed!

From 29 November to 1 December, the National Palace of Cinema Arts (Panorama), 2 December, Fergana Polytechnic Institute, 4 December, Karakalpakstan Medical Institute, will host the IX European Film Festival organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan with the support from Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This event is timed to the 30th anniversary of partnership between the EU and Uzbekistan, symbolizing cultural exchange and friendship.

The festival programme includes films of various genres: from deep dramas to comedies. Special attention is paid to documentaries, which will be shown daily at 14:00. These films cover important topics, from the impact of technology and the effects of war to the stories of people overcoming hardship.

29 November 2024

11:00 - “Mermaids Don't Cry” (Austria): a modern fairy tale about finding oneself.

14:00 - “Imad's Childhood” (Sweden, Iraq, Latvia): a documentary story about a boy affected by war.

19:00 - “The Naked Truth about the group ‘Zhiguli’ (Bulgaria): a touching comedy about the second attempt at success.

30 November 2024

11:00 - “Luxembourg, Luxembourg” (Ukraine): a touching story of two brothers.

14:00 - “Lola” (Ireland): a documentary about sisters who invented a device to intercept radio transmissions from the future.

19:00 - “Man Without Guilt” (Slovenia): a drama about forgiveness and redemption.

1 December 2024

11:00 - “Any day now” (Finland): the story of a refugee family fighting for the right to stay.

14:00 - “Trained to See: Three Women and a War” (Germany): a documentary about WWII war correspondents.

19:00 - “Dangerous Gentlemen” (Poland): a humorous crime story.

The films will be shown in the original language with subtitles in Uzbek and English languages, which will allow the audience to fully immerse themselves in the world of the characters and feel the flavor of national cultures.
