On November 15, the EU Beach Cleanup Day took place with over 300 children and young people participating.

Once again, this Friday the EU Beach Cleanup Day took place at Shangrilá Beach. This activity is part of the "EU Beach Cleanup" program, held in more than 80 countries, which aims to involve young people around the world in the fight against marine pollution, under the premise that it is possible to make a difference if we all work together.

Participants included students from St. Patrick’s College, Escuela Nº 95 Unión Europea, Colegio Stella Maris, St. Brendan’s School, Colegio y Liceo Alemán, The Anglo School, and Uruguayan American School.

Ambassadors and Governor

We were also joined by the Mayor of Canelones, Marcelo Metediera, and ambassadors from EU Member States.

In addition to helping, the young participants learned about various sources of marine pollution and their effects on society. They also discovered the existence of different types of plastic pollutants in various shapes and sizes, which end up on beaches and take over 400 years to decompose.
