Award Ceremony for the European Union Human Rights Award 2024

On Friday, December 13, the 2024 European Union Human Rights Award was awarded at the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay.

The European Union Human Rights Award aims to recognize, encourage, and bring greater visibility to the activities or projects carried out by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) focused on effectively promoting, defending, and protecting Human Rights in Uruguay. The initiative should have a compelling story to tell and the potential to be replicated.

The winning Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) received a prize of USD 5,000 (five thousand U.S. dollars) to support the development of its activities.

The Award, in its seventh edition, was given to the association:

"Familias Presentes" for comprehensively supporting and strengthening families as they navigate the process of incarceration and its effects on individuals deprived of liberty, their families, and the community.

The jury also granted two special mentions to the organizations:

"Nuestros Hijos nos esperan" for promoting family reconnection and the social and labor reintegration of individuals deprived of liberty.

"Ombijam" for contributing to the strengthening of public safety through rehabilitation processes and socio-labor-educational reintegration of individuals deprived of liberty, released individuals, and their families.
