Lola and the Sea: A Cinematic Celebration of LGBTQI+ Resilience
To celebrate Pride 2023, please join the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, Capital Pride Alliance, and the Embassy of Belgium in the United States for a special screening of the Belgian/French film "Lola and the Sea."
"Lola and the Sea" is a tender exploration of family relationships and identity. Lola, an 18-year old trans woman, is emboldened by her life-changing transition and support of her mother. But when she receives the news that her mother has suddenly passed away, Lola must return home for the funeral and face her estranged father. Driven together by the common goal to fulfil her mother’s last wishes, the two reluctantly embark on a journey to the North Sea.
Following the screening, Belgian Deputy Chief of Mission Sophie Karlshausen and Director of Trans Pride Washington DC Bianca Humady Rey will reflect on the film with Michael Lavers, International News Editor of The Washington Blade.
Doors open at 5:30 PM.
Featuring remarks by:
- Ambassador of the European Union to the United States Stavros Lambrinidis
