While in Glasgow, Ambassador Serrano had also a series of meetings at the University of Glasgow and informal exchanges with EU and UK researchers leading on ERC-funded programmes and Horizon Europe grants. He attended a roundtable with EU academics, hosted by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sir Anton Muscatelli, learning during a productive exchange about the challenges and opportunities research programmes under Horizon Europe and ERC funding provide.

The EU Ambassador took the opportunity of his visit to Glasgow to meet with members of the University of Glasgow European Society (GES) and participate in a one-hour Q&A session with students on a wide range of topics. A recurring topic among students and academics was the promotion of EU modern languages in UK’s context of monolingualism and how the EU can help promote in Scotland modern languages. The meeting marked the end of the European Youth Week and was part of on-going engagement by the EU Delegation with universities across the UK. The visit also provided the opportunity to engage with representatives of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. The Guild’s deans of social sciences, arts and humanities were gathered in Glasgow to discuss the impact of their research on society and readiness in Horizon Europe Work Programmes as well as new ways of collaboration.
