The World Food Safety Day (WFSD), celebrated every June 7th, reaches its fourth edition this year, gaining more relevance worldwide.

#WorldFoodSafetyDay is celebrated annually on 7 June to draw attention and mobilize action to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks and improve human health.

Safe food is one of the most critical guarantors for good health. Unsafe foods can cause many diseases and contribute to other poor health conditions, such as impaired growth and development, micronutrient deficiencies, noncommunicable or communicable diseases and mental illness. Every year, one in ten people around the globe are affected by foodborne diseases.

In 2022 the guiding theme on the day is the role of safe, nutritional food in ensuring human health.

The EU is working closely with WHO, FAO, CODEX, UN Nutrition and all other related international organisations to build knowledge and capacity to improve food safety worldwide. Agreed food standards protect consumers everywhere and allow us to trade quality food products around the world. The EU is supporting food safety globally to ensure better health and nutrition for all.
