It was the first time Commissioner Šefčovič visited the country. He was accompanied by the Head of the EU Delegation in Rome, Alexandra Valkenburg.

Welcomed at Palazzo Begni by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Luca Beccari, they later met with a Government delegation.

The visit of Vice-President Šefčovič is of particular significance, also in the context of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between San Marino and the EU. The shared interest in maintaining close ties between the EU and San Marino is based the common values such as respect, tolerance, safeguarding of law and integration.

The meeting focused on the ongoing negotiation process, with a view to finalizing the Association Agreement.
