Ambassador Selmayr attends his first World Food Programme Executive Board Meeting

On 18 November, Ambassador Martin Selmayr attended his first Executive Board Meeting at the World Food Programme together with the leadership of WFP and its Membership.

Ambassador Selmayr met with the Director of the UN World Food Programme, Cindy McCain where they both stressed the importance of the close partnership between the EU and the WFP in addressing global food insecurity, improving humanitarian supply chains and helping swiftly in hunger hotspots.

During the Executive Board meeting, Ambassador Selmayr recalled that it is now 1000 days that Russia started its unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine. He reiterated that the EU remains deeply concerned about the immense humanitarian cost of this war and that Russia is increasing its attacks on storage facilities, port infrastructures and vessels.  The EU stands with Ukraine as long as necessary, also in the interest of global food security.
