Ambassador Martin Selmayr welcomes to Rome the Director-General of AGRI Wolfgang Burtscher

The Director-General of the EU department for Agriculture and Rural development (DG AGRI), Mr Wolfgang Burtscher visited Rome on 26th November. He met with FAO leadership and signed the agreement for EU support to FAO’s Agricultural Market Information System - AMIS.  AMIS is an inter-Agency Platform to enhance food market transparency and encourage coordination of policy action in response to market uncertainty so to also improve preparedness for crises. EU contribution of 1,2 Million euros over six years will focusing on supporting and strengthening the core business of AMIS; expansion of AMIS into coverage of fertilisers and vegetable oils, trade logistics and early warning indicators and supporting policy dialogue and engagement from participating countries.

Ambassador Selmayr and DG Burtscher also met with the EU Heads of Missions and diplomats, for a lively exchange on the link Rome-Brussels, the EU Common Agricultural Policy and the up-coming New Vision for agriculture. A key topic were our common priorities with FAO in a Team Europe Approach. 

Ambassador Selmayr and DG Burtscher also met other ambassadors to FAO to exchange on current and future challenges of agricultural policy and the bioeconomy. 

The EU Delegation actively promotes strengthening the partnership with FAO on agricultural policy issues that will be at the core of the future Vision on Agriculture and Food.
