It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development and humanitarian aid and working with international and regional organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
As a UN observer with enhanced status, the EU Delegation to the United Nations, New York works in close coordination with the 27 EU Member States so as to speak with one voice in promoting an inclusive, networked, and effective multilateralism to better respond to global challenges through cooperation. The EU also works closely with the UN secretariat and its agencies, funds & programmes, partnering on a range of global issues and challenges.
We offer
We offer the post of Outreach & Coordination Officer (Local Agent Group I) in the New York Delegation’s Coordination, Press & Information Section, a team consisting of 7 colleagues. It is a 5 year contract (renewable). The successful candidate will serve under the direct supervision of the Heads of Section and/or (Deputy) Head of Delegation, assist the Delegation’s EU internal policy coordination, EU coordination on General Assembly affairs, EU Heads of mission meetings and outreach activities.
The local agent will assist with the following tasks:
· assist the Head of Delegation, Deputy Head of Delegation and the Head of Section in the overall internal and external policy coordination of the EUDEL’s work – including contacts with relevant EEAS and UNHQ services – working close with all other sections;
· prepare, coordinate reports from and follow-up to the weekly EU HoMs meetings and DPR meetings;
· prepare cross-sectoral briefing files, UN statements and reports for the HoD and DHoD and EU HQ;
· assist in the coordination of the network of EUMS 'election officers' in New York, including through monthly meetings of EOs, a single/consolidated chart of upcoming elections and candidates, information sharing;
· assist the coordination of high-level visits and events- including the UNGA High Level Week;
· assist the section in negotiations of resolutions or drafting of statements for the General Assembly Plenary or committees;
· prepare and support HoMs retreats, including briefing preparation and reporting;
· liaise with EU and non-EU Missions for the purposes of information sharing, including weekly debriefings with interested aligning countries.
· advise and assist in the strategic planning and execution of outreach, media and public information activities of the HoD, DHoD and delegation as a whole.
This job function may be slightly modified in accordance with the needs of the Delegation.
We offer a collegial atmosphere in an international environment and work in close coordination with the Administration team in supporting colleagues across the EU Delegation. The office is located at 666 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10017.
Salary level ranges is dependent on relevant and verified employment experience, starting from $119K (2 years of experience), $129K (6 years of experience) etc.

The expected start date will be December 1st, 2024.
Minimum requirements/eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered):
- Master's degree in political science, international relations, international economics or public administration/management/communication, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 2 years' relevant experience after the Master’s degree in public administration and/or International Organization and/or Diplomatic Representation, including, preferably, experience in collaborating intensively with EU Institutions and Member States.
- Excellent proficiency of English and some knowledge of French are required. Knowledge of any other official UN language would be an asset.
- Working Environment: The EU Delegation to the UN in New York offers a very dynamic work environment in a very diverse, multilingual and multicultural team with a strong work ethos and commitment to represent the EU and its Member States as best as possible. We cover all areas of work of the UN and (internal and external) coordination and cooperation is central to our daily work. The candidate should be willing to work long hours and –when required- be available also in evenings and during weekends especially during visits by High Level EU officials.

It is important to note that the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations does not sponsor visas for Local Agents. Applicants must have an existing and valid US work authorisation that does not require sponsorship by the Delegation (i.e. EAD card, Green card or G1/G3 visas for the spouses of EU officials posted at an EU Member State).

The process
After the deadline, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a shortlist of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in the cover letter and resume. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which will include an interview. During this phase, the selection committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.
