Export Controls Workshop

27.01.2025

Half day, in-person workshop on the multilateral export control regimes (MECRs), organised by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, with the support of the EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva, and the delegations of Australia and Switzerland.

Although none of the MECRs hold their meetings in Geneva, their work is relevant to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation. Disarmament diplomats have said they would like to understand better how these regimes work.

The workshop will have two sessions. In the first session, representatives of the various MECRs will explain what their regime does. This will be followed by discussion/questions. Then in the second session, an expert from a leading thinktank will present on the challenges being faced by the regimes and how they fit into the broader work on arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.

The workshop is intended for disarmament diplomats. It may also be of interest to those working on trade. Representatives from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) have also been invited.
