#EU4HumanRights – Countdown to the Human Rights Council
The 75th anniversary of the UDHR (Human Rights 75) will be celebrated on 10 December 2023. Ahead of this milestone celebration, Human Rights 75 will rekindle the spirit, impulse, and vitality of the UDHR and renew a worldwide consensus on human rights. The UDHR 75 Initiative recalls the consensus imagined by the UDHR and seeks to reset, strengthen, and further develop the remarkable human rights infrastructure we have built. Ahead of the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council taking place from 27 February to 31 March 2023, #TeamEurope used the opportunity to raise attention for each of the articles of the UDHR, showing that human rights are the heart of EU relations with other countries and regions. In that spirit, Human Rights Experts from the EU Member States participated in our social media campaign “#EU4HumanRights – Countdown to #HRC52.”
The countdown covered a period of 30 days, with one article of the UDHR per day allocated to one EU Member State for presentation on social media channels by the respective EU Member State’s Human Rights Experts. The campaign thus started on 28 January. Human Rights officers of all 27 EU Member States shared their personal perspective on why the respective article matters to them. In doing so, the campaign illustrated the EU’s strong commitment to promoting and protecting human rights, democracy and the rule of law worldwide. At HRC52 and beyond, the EU stands united as a staunch supporter of the United Nations human rights system, and will continue to actively uphold, defend and promote all human rights as a priority of its external action.
