Invitation to apply for a MediaFit Grant
As part of the EU-funded MediaFit programme, DW Akademie, the media development department of Deutsche Welle, invites Ukrainian regional media outlets to apply for a MediaFit grant. The objective is to help regional media to continue operating in spite of the war.
The deadline for application is Tuesday 26 April 2022.
Who can apply?
All types of Ukrainian media outlets, including radio, online media, TV, with:
- independent editorial guidelines
- current ability to operate in challenging security context
- 1+ years of prior experience
- at least 4 full-time staff and non-staff members
- audience size of at least 15 000 users and growing
- regional and local focus, preferably in southern and eastern Ukraine
MediaFit Grant includes:
- financial support (average EUR 25 000), may include equipment
- 6-12 months
- access to MediaFit experts on crisis management
- mentoring to develop a resilience strategy
What can be funded?
- operating business costs: staff, rent, utilities, internet
- food
- health care and health products
- travel/accommodation
- consulting services
- technical services incl. digital infrastructure and hosting, security
- printing and copying services
- stationery and office supplies, trainers’ fees and training materials
- event organisation
- psychological support services

Project Background
DW Akademie, Germany’s leading organisation for international media development department of Deutsche Welle, is the main coordinator of the project “MediaFit Programme for Information Integrity in southern and eastern Ukraine” (ENI/2021/423-657). DW Akademie implements the project in partnership with Transtele Canal France International (CFI) and Lithuanian Radio and Television (LRT).
DW Akademie is Deutsche Welle's centre for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. Our projects strengthen the human right to freedom of expression and unhindered access to information. DW Akademie empowers people worldwide to make independent decisions based on reliable facts and constructive dialogue.
The project aims at enhancing the information integrity in Ukraine and the resilience of Ukraine’s media against direct and hybrid threats, including cyber and physical attacks. The focus is on equipping regional media outlets with means to combat disinformation and overcome the economic crisis. The MediaFit project provides opportunities for journalists to build a community that will reenforce the regional media market. It is about making professional journalism accessible to all.
