"No one is safe". Conversation about human trafficking
Anyone can become a victim of human trafficking. But most often the victims are young people - men and women of the working age from 20 to 40 years. Why them? Remember that traffickers are looking for someone flexible and mobile in order to leave the city or a country, and healthy so that he can be exploited and kept in slavery. Between the ages of 20 and 40, people are in their prime, mobile, looking for opportunities to earn or change their lives, and full of ambition. It is such a person who can become a victim of traffickers when he is held by force, used for any purpose and violence is exerted against him. All these methods of depriving a person of freedom are used by traffickers.
For example, a young man at the age of 30 leaves the country. The neighbor offered a good job, promised to help with housing and documents. Upon arrival in a new country, the neighbor disappeared. The young man counts on himself, finds a job, somehow tries to arrange his life. New employers take away the passport and from that moment on, they begin to manipulate, blackmail, sometimes threaten and use physical and psychological violence. Not knowing local language, laws and traditions exacerbates his situation in a foreign country. Working all day, without days off, without pay, with poor food and unhealthy conditions, terrible living conditions - this is an incomplete list that people who come to work in another country can be subjected to. This is what modern slavery looks like.
Different countries have different methods of releasing people from exploitation. Most of the time this is done by the police. However, after the negative experience of working abroad, the victims of human trafficking need a lot of time and therapy in order to reintegrate into their society. Very often, post-traumatic stress and revictimization occur several years after the incident. Depending on the stress resistance, the rehabilitation process goes in different ways. For some, the recovery time takes a month, while for others it may take up to 6-12 months. After psychological therapy, training and employment of a person is necessary. Therefore, it is important to assess the needs of victims for their reintegration and return to the labor market of their country. An individual approach is applied.
Also, it is very important to give knowledge to each person on how to prevent the risks of getting into situations of human trafficking. Public organizations of Turkmenistan are actively involved in the issues of combating human trafficking, rehabilitation and reintegration of victims. Specialists of public organizations provide consultations for all citizens on travel abroad for the purpose of employment, education, marriage, tourism, etc., they will redirect them to an organization where timely assistance will be provided. Any caller can get a free consultation in order to reduce the risks and avoid becoming a victim of human trafficking.
