The European Economic and Trade Office (EETO) held today (6 October) a press briefing for the 2021 EU Investment Forum. “Your investment today will boost our bilateral trade tomorrow,” said Filip Grzegorzewski, Head of the European Economic and Trade Office. The European Union remains Taiwan’s largest foreign investor. As the EU rolls out its actions under the European Green Deal and the Digital Europe transition, Grzegorzewski looks forward to seeing more Taiwanese businesses invest in Europe.

The 2021 EU Investment Forum is co-organised by the EETO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This is the first and the largest EU-Taiwan joint event following the adoption of the “Joint Communication on the EU Strategy for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific” in September. The Strategy mentions Taiwan as a partner in the semiconductor industry. The Forum is highly regarded by both sides despite the pandemic restrictions to hold the event online.

For the first time, the Director General of the European Commission’ Directorate General of Trade (DG TRADE), Sabine Weyand, will be the VIP guest to deliver the keynote speech on “Investing in the EU.” Officials from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) and Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) will also present the EU’s future policies and investment areas in the next decade under the European Green Deal and Digital Europe, with an estimated expenditure worth NTD 25 trillion. “The EU’s Green Deal and Digital Europe policies will bring great opportunities for Taiwanese business,” said Grzegorzewski. As global supply chains are shifting quickly in the post-pandemic times, he strongly encouraged Taiwanese businesses to invest in the EU and seize business opportunities of the next generation.

The Forum also invites experts from PwC, Deloitte, Crédit Agricole Corporate, and Baker & Mckenzie, as well as managers from the well-known European telecommunication company – Ericsson, and two Taiwanese companies having production lines and branch companies in Europe – Wistron InfoComm and Tex Year Group to share their views on the European investment regulations and environment.

The 2021 EU Investment Forum will take place online on 14 October in the afternoon. Head of the EETO Filip Grzegorzewski will be joined by President Tsai Ing-wen, Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, and Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua at the opening ceremony with welcome remarks. Grzegorzewski extends his warmest welcome to the business leaders in Taiwan for them to participate in the Forum and learn about the latest EU policies and future direction for industrial development.
