My name is Michael Ohnmacht, and I am honored to serve as the new Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Syria. I am thrilled to step into this role at such a pivotal time.

My connection with the Middle East has deepened over the years. It was first established during my studies in Arabic Language and Literature at the Arabic Teaching Institute for Foreigners in Damascus. Following this, I furthered my academic pursuits in Islamic Sciences and Modern History, which deepened my appreciation for the region's rich history and vibrant cultures.

With two decades of diplomatic service, including assignments in Tripoli, Riyadh, Beirut and Ramallah, I think that I bring a wealth of experience in fostering strong cooperative relationships.

As we prepare to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead, I look forward to working closely with partners to advance the political solution to the Syrian crisis and to support the EU's activities across various sectors.

Through this introduction, I hope to start a meaningful dialogue and share my enthusiasm for the mission we embark on together.
