EU managing director for Africa ends 3-day visit to Southern Sudan
Our Africa Director, Rita Laranjinha, has completed a three-day visit to South Sudan, where she met with the country's leaders, peace partners and other civil society representatives to discuss the need for peace and socio-economic development in the new nation.

On Thursday, Ms Laranjinha led a high-level delegation to the Renk/Joda border post in South Sudan. She was very impressed by the hospitality of the people and the work of the humanitarian community in responding to the huge humanitarian needs there.

"I concluded my visit to SS with meetings with the two principals and reiterated the EU's overarching goal of peace, stability and development," said Ms Laranjinha at the end of her three-day visit to South Sudan.
"I return to Brussels with new insights and impressions. The EU will remain a committed partner for the people of South Sudan and will do all it can to support the peace process. The EU will remain a committed partner for the SS people and will continue to support the peace process."

Despite the many challenges facing the world today, the Managing Director said that South Sudan remains high on the European Union's agenda.
