Consular Crisis Preparedness Roundtable (05.Feb.2025)

Last Wednesday, the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Korea hosted a Consular Crisis Preparedness Roundtable, welcoming consular, crisis, and communication officials from EU Member States, along with key international partners, including representatives from Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The roundtable provided a platform to discuss best practices and lessons learned in crisis communication and media management. The meeting focused on strategies for effectively handling media relations, internal communication, and public messaging during a crisis, drawing on the expertise of the European External Action Service’s (EEAS) Strategic Communication and Consular Affairs Departments.
Discussions revolved around media strategies and communication frameworks that can be applied during consular crises. The goal was to enhance preparedness, safeguard nationals, and ensure clear, timely, and accurate messaging.
The event concluded with a networking reception, fostering deeper connections among consular officers and media communication experts, which will contribute to future collaboration and support during crisis situations.
