A first for the #EUBeachCleanUp in Singapore
At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat for World Cleanup Day (Sept 21), Ambassador Iwona Piórko joined the activity in the island’s East Coast.
On X, Ambassador wrote (@IwonaPiorkoEU): “Grateful to Deputy PM Heng Swee Keat for inviting me to East Coast to join government officials, parliamentarians, agencies & volunteers on #WorldCleanUpDay.”
The event saw the participation of the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore Jessica Tan, Senior Minister of State for National Development of Singapore Tan Kiat How and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Baey Yam Keng.
Several workers who helped with the oil-spill clean-up efforts in Singapore were honoured by Deputy Prime Minister Heng on this occasion. More than 400 tonnes of oil were spilt into Singapore waters after a dredging boat hit a bunker vessel on June 14th, 2024.
European Union Delegation to Singapore
Our oceans are under threat and we have to be the wave of change. In another community-led effort, #TeamEurope joined Singapore Beach Warriors at Punggol Beach, taking action to ensure marine waste does not outweigh the fish in the sea. Our Deputy Head of Mission Errol Levy was joined in this activity by Deputy Heads of Mission of Austria, Estonia and Finland. #EU4Ocean
