Travel Information
National members of the European Union (EU) and Schengen Member States in need of consular assistance in Sierra Leone should contact the Embassies/Consulates/Honorary Consuls of their respective countries.
EU citizens are entitled to seek help from the embassy or consulate of any other EU Member State if they find themselves in a situation where they require assistance outside the EU, with no embassy or consulate from their own Member State effectively in a position to help them. For more information on Consular protection outside the EU.
IMPORTANT: In Sierra Leone, only 2 EU Member States have a resident Embassy. EU and Schengen Member States cooperate closely locally on consular protection matters including with the honorary consuls of non-resident Member States, through a constant exchange of information, crisis preparedness and collective action when needed in case of a consular crisis. The EU Delegation assists actively in this cooperation.
The British High Commission in Sierra Leone provides consular protection to EU nationals who are unrepresented by their own Embassies and Consulates in Sierra Leone. Qualifying EU citizens in need of urgent consular protection (such as a victim of crime, if arrested or imprisoned, or in the event of a death) should contact the British High Commission on +232 (0) 76780713. Alternatively, meetings can be arranged by appointment on www.consular-apointments.service.gov.uk.
The UK’s latest Travel Advice can be found at FCO Travel Advice for Sierra Leone. Additional advice and information are available on Twitter and Facebook at @UKinSierraLeone.
Below is a list of Emergency Contacts for EU/Schengen citizens in Sierra Leone.
You are also invited to consult the travel advice available on the websites of those Embassies or their Ministries of Foreign Affairs, which are regularly updated.
