EU Ambassador Jacek Jankowski Presents Letters of Credence to the President of Sierra Leone

On 8 October 2024, the new EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski, officially presented his Letters of Credence to the President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio, at a perfectly organised ceremony hosted at State House in Freetown, which marked yet another fresh start of the enduring partnership between the EU and Sierra Leone.

The credentials presentation also attracted the attendance of high-level government officials and cabinet Ministers, including the Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Timothy Kabba.

Ambassador Jankowski was accompanied on this significant occasion by four officials from the EU Delegation to Sierra Leone: deputy Head of Delegation Emilio Rossetti; Head of Cooperation Gerald Hatler; Head of Finance, Contract and Audit Agneta Lindqvist Rommen and Head of Administration,  Linda Maxwell.

President Bio warmly received Ambassador Jankowski and his team and underscored the importance of the EU-Sierra Leone partnership.

He welcomed the new Ambassador to Sierra Leone and acknowledged the European Union's strong partnership with Sierra Leone over the past years. He reiterated his commitment to continued cooperation with the EU and assured the new ambassador of his fullest support during his tenure.

The strong and enduring partnership between the European Union and Sierra Leone was clearly reaffirmed by both leaders, committing to further cooperation in key areas such as sustainable development, agriculture, education , trade , democracy , and human rights .

Ambassador Jankowski highlighted the EU’s commitment to deepen the relationship with Sierra Leone and broaden the scope of activities, ranging from supporting democratic reforms, fostering a green and inclusive economy, improving the business climate, and creating opportunities for youth employment. He also emphasized Sierra Leone’s important role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and the shared dedication to a rules-based international order.
