Partnership Dialogue between Senegal and the European Union

The Senegalese authorities and Team Europe (the European Union and its Member States) held their annual Partnership Dialogue today in Dakar. This first session of political dialogue with the new Senegalese authorities provided an opportunity to deepen discussions between Senegal and the EU, aiming for a renewed partnership in areas of mutual interest.

 

Discussions focused on how the EU and Senegal can work together to achieve the goals of “Vision Senegal 2050,” particularly regarding the competitiveness of the economy, the quality of human capital, and sustainable territorial and national development. The sustainable improvement of Senegalese living conditions remains at the heart of the relationship between Senegal and the EU. Both parties also exchanged views on governance, human rights, regional security, and migration issues.

Mme H.E Ms. Yassine FALL, Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, and H.E Mr. Jean-Marc PISANI, EU Ambassador to Senegal, co-chaired the meeting, which was attended by the Ambassadors of Team Europe. Mr. Amadou Chérif DIOUF, Secretary of State for Senegalese Abroad, also participated in the dialogue.

Representatives from the relevant ministerial departments presented various aspects of Senegal’s economic and financial situation, highlighting the role of good governance and human rights in “Vision Senegal 2050.” Both parties discussed job creation and access to quality training for youth and women, as well as regional security and integration challenges.

The EU used this opportunity to present the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy to the Senegalese authorities, emphasizing the promotion of sustainable infrastructure in transport and energy. Furthermore, the EU proposed a holistic approach to managing legal and regulated migration while combating irregular migration. At the conclusion of this session, both parties agreed to continue discussions through regular sectoral dialogues.
