Commissioner Kos pays respect to victims of tragic shooting in Cetinje

 

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos visited Cetinje today to pay tribute to the victims of the recent tragic shooting that claimed the lives of 13 local residents, including two children.

In the company of Mayor of Cetinje Nikola Djuraskovic, Commissioner Kos honoured the victims by lighting candles in front the Villa of Lovcen, expressing her deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in the terrible tragedy.

She said that the European Union will continue to stand with the people of Cetinje, voicing commitment to address, together with Montenegrin authorities, the challenges of illegal trade in weapons and to foster economic and social development of the town.

“Cetinje, you are not alone. Let this moment of sorrow serve as a reminder of the strength of unity – within your community, Montenegro, and the wider European family. Together, we will overcome all challenges and ensure a brighter future for Cetinje,” the Commissioner concluded.

The Commissioner recalled Cetinje’s exceptional historical significance as a symbol of Europe’s rich cultural heritage. “Your recent marches in support of Ukraine moved us deeply, demonstrating Cetinje’s unwavering commitment to European values. This city embodies resilience, cultural richness, and solidarity – values that lie at the heart of the European Union,” said the Commissioner.
