You can honour the Romanian language in lots of different ways. The EU Ambassador to Chisinau, Jānis Mažeiks, decided to do it by singing the lyrics of Grigore Vieru set to rock music.

The original song, "Dzimtā Valoda", was composed in the 90s by a band from Latvia, who used the Latvian translation of the poem "In your language" by Vieru. Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks had the idea to re-adapt it – he used the original poem, but the same melody, which is extremely popular in his home country and which is considered one of the symbols of the national revival in Latvia.

"Angry Band" helped the ambassador, and the band Līvi and Călin Vieru, the owners of the rights to the song and the lyrics, respectively, were excited about the project.
