Ambassador Rafael Daerr Presents Credentials, Marking a New Chapter in EU-Malaysia Relations

On 21 October, in a ceremony held at Istana Negara, His Excellency Rafael Daerr presented his credentials to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, officially accrediting him as the Ambassador of the European Union to Malaysia.

 

This symbolic event signifies a commitment to further strengthening the long-standing ties between the EU and Malaysia, with Ambassador Daerr expressing his dedication to fostering collaboration on key issues that benefit both the EU and Malaysia.

During the ceremony, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim extended his congratulations to Ambassador Daerr on his appointment, underlining Malaysia’s appreciation of its dynamic partnership with the EU. His Majesty expressed hope that Ambassador Daerr’s extensive diplomatic experience would contribute to enhancing the strategic ties between the EU and Malaysia, building on their mutual priorities in trade, sustainable development, security, and people-to-people exchanges. Ambassador Daerr, in turn, conveyed his respect for the strong foundations of Malaysia-EU relations and reiterated his ambition to advance cooperative projects and foster deeper understanding between both regions.

Ambassador Daerr was one of nine foreign envoys presenting their credentials at the ceremony, joining the ranks of diplomats dedicated to building relations with Malaysia. The group included Niklas Wiberg of Sweden, Anne Vasara of Finland, Kirstine Vangkilde Berner of Denmark, Jodi Robinson of Canada, Marta Laura Gabrieloni of Argentina, Thepthavone Sengmany of Laos, Ali Mohamed Abukar of Somalia, and Jimmy Ovia of Papua New Guinea. This diverse diplomatic representation underlined Malaysia’s active engagement in the international arena.

Several senior Malaysian dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Deputy Secretary-General (Bilateral Affairs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Datuk Mohamad Rozian Abd Ghani, and Wisma Putra Chief of Protocol Datuk Yubazlan Yusof.

Ambassador Daerr’s appointment comes at a pivotal time in EU-Malaysia relations, with the EU Delegation working on numerous joint initiatives, including trade, environmental sustainability, and innovation-driven development. As he embarks on this new chapter, the EU Delegation looks forward to supporting his leadership in furthering cooperation and achieving shared goals.
