07.09.2021

The Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Rune Skinnebach, has presented his letters of credence to the President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, today at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

During the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Skinnebach stressed the long-standing relation and friendship between the European Union and the Republic of Malawi, based on a legacy of shared values, common priorities and successful development cooperation.

''The Republic of Malawi and the European Union share more than just values: we share a common vision and join forces to make a more just, inclusive, climate-smart and multilateral world image,’’ Ambassador Skinnebach told President Chakwera.

Ambassador Skinnebach congratulated President Chakwera on his determination to deal with corruption in Malawi, starting with the public sector, and re-affirmed the European Union’s full support to his programme.

Ambassador Skinnebach concluded by recalling the close alignment between Malawi’s Vision 2063 and the European Union’s own cooperation programme for the next seven years, developed in close coordination with government departments and the National Planning Commission. The EU’s interlinked priorities in Malawi for this period will be 1. Green and resilient economic transformation; 2. Democratic and economic governance; and 3. Human development and social inclusion.

The Ambassador expressed hope that the existing strong relationship between Malawi and the European Union would reach new heights during his mandate.
