On the eve of municipal council elections in a first group of 58 municipalities, the European Union Delegation and diplomatic missions of EU Member States to Libya commend the High National Election Commission (HNEC) and all parties involved for this important milestone, meant to ensure representative local governance, and channel political participation through electoral politics.

We encourage registered voters to participate actively and elect representative leaders in line with their needs and aspirations.

We encourage all candidates to seize the opportunity and engage in the electoral process with integrity and in line with the code of conduct provided by the HNEC.

Before, during, and after the voting day, we call upon all parties and authorities involved, at the local and central levels, to support the democratic process and ensure that a safe, secure and inclusive environment prevails.
