The EU Delegation in Kuwait has participated for the second time in the Young Ambassadors Initiative, a programme that enables over 30 young students to gain first-hand experience in diplomacy. This UN-led programme had a specific focus this year on climate action. From November 2023 until March 2024, the EU Ambassador Anne Koistinen has been mentoring Mr. Rafael Nava, a young bright student with strong environmental convictions, as Delegation’s Young Ambassador.

Mr. Nava has joined other Young Ambassadors in a series of empowering activities with a focus on climate action and environmental protection, such as a visit to the only natural reserve in Kuwait and other local environmental initiatives, workshops and climate negotiations simulations.  Mr. Nava also joined regular EU Delegation activities to learn more about the work of a diplomatic mission, including events and cooperation with EU Member States.

The programme aimed to empower the next generation in Kuwait to become confident advocates for climate action by engaging with seasoned diplomats and climate experts, gaining insights into the complexities of international negotiations, the importance of multilateral cooperation, and the art of building alliances.
