Green Hydrogen (GH2) and Power-to-X (PtX) are gaining importance globally, with projects being conceptualised and developed. Kenya is a frontrunner in Africa in developing green projects. It seeks to build a green economy, where Green Hydrogen and PtX play a critical role, especially in the hard-to-defossilise industries such as fertilizer production, transport (mainly aviation and shipping) and steel manufacture.

After the launch of the Green Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap for Kenya during the Africa Climate Summit held in Nairobi in September 2023, the main aim of this event is to follow up and discuss the main development acquired so far.

The EU is a long-term partner to Kenya’s green transition journey and Green Hydrogen can take centre stage as the catalyst for a cross-sector shift towards a low-carbon economy powered by renewables. Green Hydrogen will require low costs and stable supply of renewable energy and we are pleased to announce that we have just approved a new €20 million grant (3.3 Billion KES) to bolster Kenya's electricity system paving the way toward a 100% green resilient electricity system by 2030.
