EU- Kenya Film Exchange at the NBO Film Festival

This year's festival showcased East African and European films, bringing the creatives together to dialogue under the EU-Kenya Film Exchange banner.

The NBO film festival returned to Nairobi screens for its fifth edition this October, after a five year lull following the Covid 19 outbreak.

NBO Film Festival, Kenya’s leading platform for African filmmakers, brought together filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts, for a 10 day programme filled with events at three venues, serving  three geographical regions. The festival showcased an array of ground-breaking Kenyan and East African films, including two Kenya premieres of award-winning movies presented for the first time.

The opening ceremony premiered the powerful Kenyan documentary “The Battle for Laikipia”, a story exploring the ongoing land disputes in Kenya amid escalating tensions caused by climate change.  The closing film was "Our Land, Our Freedom," another Kenyan documentary exploring Kenya's colonial past.

During the opening event, EU Delegation to Kenya Deputy Ambassador Ondrej Simek highlighted the value of the EU-Kenya Film Exchange in promoting the Kenyan film industry while encouraging exchanges within the industry.

The EU-Kenya Film Exchange, started by the EUNIC Cluster in Kenya, actively engages with creative communities, in order to promote culture as a driver and important catalyst bringing about societal change.

This year’s EU- Kenya Film Exchange focused on technical discussions, bringing together industry experts to discuss distribution models, technical story telling aspects and exploring ways in which films can spark discussions on important topics.
