Japan: EU Delegation and EU embassies’ diplomats march for diversity at Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2024

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Japan, together with several EU Member States, jointly set up a booth at Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2024, which was held at Yoyogi Park in central Tokyo on 20 and 21 April. The event, which marked its 30th anniversary this year, was an opportunity to highlight the EU’s commitment to building a Union of Equality where diversity is celebrated as part of our collective richness and where everyone can be themselves without risk of discrimination, exclusion or violence.

On the event’s second day, EU Ambassador to Japan Jean-Eric Paquet and EU Delegation staff, together with ambassadors and diplomats of EU Member States, joined the roughly 15,000 people who took part in the colourful parade that winded through the streets of the Shibuya and Harajuku districts of the capital.

Later speaking on the main Pride Stage, Ambassador Paquet said,

"I’m delighted to join you today, as I did last year, to send a strong message in favour of a society where sexual orientation and gender identity should not be a source of discrimination".
