Message from the Ambassador
Building a Partnership of Equals
Dear visitors,
I am deeply honoured and inspired to have been posted here in the beautiful Jamaica, as we prepare to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025 and enter a new era of 21st century relations under the Samoa Agreement and its Caribbean Protocol.
Jamaica and the European Union share a long history of cooperation as like-minded political, economic and development partners. Jamaica is a key ally of the European Union in international fora for addressing global challenges and for defending democratic values, multilateralism and the rules-based international order.
Over the next few years, the European Union will strive to build an even stronger partnership of equals with Jamaica. I am eager to work in partnership with the Government of Jamaica and other stakeholders to strengthen our partnership dialogue and to advance our shared values and common priorities. Our relationship can legitimately be characterised as a true partnership for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), our main focus being on combating the impacts of climate change, ensuring green and digital transitions, stimulating sustainable trade and investments, while promoting citizen security and human development.
I couldn't be more pleased to spend my four-year tenure in Jamaica, known all over the world for its natural beauty, rich and vibrant culture, as well as its resilient and friendly people.
H.E. Erja Askola, Ambassador of the European Union to Jamaica
