Startups Shortlist Announced: EU-India Collaboration on EV Battery Recycling under Trade and Technology Council
Following the Expression of Interest launched on 9 April 2024, six startups specializing in Battery Recycling Technologies for Electric Vehicles (EVs) from the Member States have been selected to participate in a matchmaking event. Hosted under the EU-India Trade and Technology Council Working Group 2, the virtual matchmaking event is scheduled for 20 June 2024. During the event, these startups will present their solutions to a curated group of EU and Indian ecosystem stakeholders.
1. Alterity- Spain
The scale-up specialises in designing and manufacturing lithium-ion high-performance batteries with a sustainable focus, including validating second-life batteries. Their proprietary electronics enable precise diagnosis of battery behaviour throughout its initial lifecycle.
2. Ecomet Refining- Italy
The company works on recovering and refining precious metals and critical raw materials from electronic waste, lithium-ion batteries, catalysts, and photovoltaic panels. Their innovative technology, based on a redesigned Top Blown Rotary Converter, reduces methane gas usage by 75% and eliminates the need for raw materials in the fusion process.
3. Eneris- Poland
The company specialises in recycling end-of-life battery packs and production waste. Their advanced mechanical process efficiently recovers valuable materials, meeting high industry standards.
4. Primobius- Germany
The company provides scalable, efficient recycling solutions for Li-ion batteries, handling multiple chemistries and formats without full discharge generating high purity, low carbon footprint battery materials for reuse in the battery supply chain.
5. RockTech- Germany
The company is dedicated to producing battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate for EV batteries. They supply the battery industry with sustainable and locally produced lithium, achieving a recycling rate of 100%, issuing 30% lower carbon emissions.
6. Tozero- Germany
The company recovers critical materials from battery waste using efficient methods producing high-quality recycled battery materials with over 70% lower carbon footprint and 7x lower CAPEX and OPEX compared to other players in the industry.
