The opening event of the International Children's Film Festival took place in Bíó Paradís on 26 October. The festival will take place until the 3 November 2024. European children's films make up the large majority of the films on offer and the EU Delegation to Iceland is a proud supporter of the film festival. Over 200 children and teenagers and their families attended the opening event. During the opening event, children received free pop-corn and juices and were able to get fun face paints. The EU Delegation offered cookies and gave the children a chance to participate in question games about Europe, take photos in a fun photo booth. 

The children's film festival has been held annually since 2013, making this year the 11th edition of the festival. The aim of the International Children's Film Festival is to present children, teenagers and their families with a selection of the most notable and award-winning family-friendly films, both live action and animated. The festival aims to increase diversity in the film environment for children, and to promote film literacy among children and teenagers.

The opening film of the festival was the European film Flow by the Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis, about a lonely cat that encounters great difficulty when its home is devastated by a great flood. The cat finds refuge on a boat populated by various species and will team up with them despite their differences.
