- Need for emergency travel documents;
- Accident or serious illness;
- Emergency rescue and repatriation;
- Being a victim of a crime;
- Arrest or detention;
- Death
Are you an EU citizen and need consular protection in Guinea-Bissau?
You can contact the Embassy/Consulate/honorary consul of your country of residence, who can provide you with consular protection.
Portugal, France and Spain have embassies in Guinea-Bissau. Portugal and Spain also have consulates in the country. In addition, Germany has a representative office.
If your EU Member State does not have an embassy/consulate/honorary consul resident in Guinea-Bissau that can provide consular protection, you can request consular protection from another EU Member State.
Any EU citizen abroad whose Member State does not have local representation is entitled to consular protection by the diplomatic or consular authorities of any other Member State of the European Union. In this case, EU citizens are entitled to consular protection under the same conditions as nationals of another EU Member State.

Please note that the European Union Delegation in Guinea-Bissau cannot provide direct consular assistance.
As an EU citizen, there are simple steps you can take to make consular protection more effective, for example:
- Follow travel advice issued by your country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- When abroad, register at your embassy or consulate and/or through specific platforms, when available.
- Other advice includes keeping an electronic copy of your travel documents, taking out travel insurance or saving your contact details in case of a crisis.
For more information about consular protection, visit the specific pages on the websites of the European External Action Service, the European Commission and the Council of the EU.
