What is the EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board?
The EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board (YSB) is a platform designed to empower Ethiopian youth and youth-led organizations. It provides a unique opportunity for young Ethiopians to influence European Union external action and shape EU programmes in Ethiopia. First established in June 2022, the EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board is part of the broader Global Youth Sounding Board initiative, which advises the Commissioner and the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) on youth participation and empowerment in EU external action. The EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board contributes to making EU action more participatory, relevant, and effective for young people in EU partner countries.
Key Areas of Focus
The EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board members advise and provide a youth perspective to the EU Delegation on actions which fall under the priority sectors of their work, namely:
- Green Deal
- Human Development
- Governance and Peace
How Does the EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board Work?
The EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board members represent the views of a broad range of young people by reaching out within and beyond their networks to gather opinions and perspectives. They build links with similar structures and existing youth initiatives at international, regional, and country levels, responding to ad-hoc issues and requests and participating in capacity-building activities.
The 2024-2025 cohort will be actively involved in implementing and disseminating the EU Youth Action Plan (YAP) https://international-partnerships.ec.europa.eu/policies/youth/youth-action-plan_en . Adopted in October 2022, the YAP envisions young people as essential actors of change for more democratic, equal, inclusive, and peaceful societies. The EU-Ethiopia Youth Sounding Board will support this vision by advising on youth policies, supporting YAP implementation, and participating in various activities and initiatives.
