Breaking Barriers: Empowering Women in Ethiopian Politics

Introduction:
The project "Enhancing the Participation of Women in Ethiopian Politics: Balancing the Scales" aims to address gender disparities by empowering women leaders and fostering an environment conducive to equitable political participation.
This EU-funded initiative, implemented by the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) and the Coalition of Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations for Elections (CECOE), seeks to strengthen women's role in decision-making processes.
Objectives:
- Empower women leaders to participate in politics meaningfully through targeted capacity-building initiatives.
- Create an environment that supports women’s active and equal participation in Ethiopian politics.
Project Activities
- Capacity Building for Women Leaders
- Awareness Campaigns and Civic Education
- Engagement with Political Parties and Policymakers
Expected Results:
- Enhanced leadership skills and political knowledge among at least 320 women leaders.
- Increased public awareness about gender equality in political participation.
- Strengthened networks and support systems for women alumni of political training initiatives.
- Implementation of gender-sensitive strategies by Ethiopian political parties.
