On September 5, 2024, the European Union signed the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law. This Convention is the first legally binding international agreement on this topic and is fully in line with the EU's AI Act, the world’s first comprehensive regulation on AI.
In celebration of Human Rights Day 2024, the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe released “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: A New European Framework”, an engaging video to delve into the Convention’s groundbreaking significance. The video also highlights importance of the EU AI Act. Thierry Boulangé, the European Commission’s Chief Negotiator for the Convention, provides a clear explanation of how these two instruments are distinct but complement each other.
