China is the largest consumer of agricultural mulch film in the world. The plastic residues of mulch film in the field do not only affect soil quality and future crops, but also cause pollution of water and the environment. Increasing the collection rate of agricultural mulch films and reducing plastic film residues in the soil is key to improve mulch film management systems. Through pilot in Kailu County of Inner Mongolia, we explored a new mechanism to better address plastics pollution caused by mulch films through a win-win situation among farmers, business and authorities.
