The EU Delegation to China, represented by the Head of the Green Transition Section, Laurent Bardon, participated in the 2024 Green Transition and High-Quality Development International Workshop, an event organised by the US-based National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in Beijing on 16 October. NRDC CEO Manish Bapna, Deputy Director General Lu Shize from China’s Ministry of Econology and Environment, in charge of China’s carbon markets, and Professor Zhang Xiliang from Tsinghua University also participated in this event.
As China expands its own compulsory carbon market and prepares its Nationally Determined Contribution, Laurent Bardon introduced the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) as an efficient tool to move down the path to carbon neutrality.
